Project Solutions

Ensuring reliable performance, Mecho/5 manual shades were chosen for their ability to deploy a blackout shade when complete light control is needed. This shading choice also supports daylight harvesting by allowing solar shades to be lowered as needed, preserving both comfort and access to the surrounding views.

In the lobby, Mecho’s motorized ElectroShades with iQ2-AC motors were implemented to provide automated sun responsive movement, delivering a balance between shading performance and views. This automation also creates a hands-free, intuitive solution for managing light in a busy public space.

EcoSheer (6750 Clay) shade cloth was selected for this project for its ability to reduce solar gain, control glare, and support lower energy consumption. It also helps reduce A/C loads while managing brightness and glare. These features improve worker productivity. A 3% openness factor was selected to deliver the ideal blend of performance and comfort, allowing a generous amount of natural light into the space and preserving uplifting views for patients. The strategic choice of shades was selected to complement the "park-like setting" as a therapeutic environment that incorporates nature.

Project Results

LEED The Mecho shading systems utilized in this project support the creation of spacious, bright, and private patient rooms, creating exceptional spaces for families to comfortably stay in the Arthur M. Blank Hospital.

Through daylight management, the shades enhance therapeutic benefits of nature while ensuring calming views and occupant comfort. The integrated solutions played a key role in the facility becoming the largest LEED for Healthcare project in the world and support the energy efficiency targets required for LEED v4/4.1 certification. This design maintains panoramic views of the Atlanta skyline and surrounding tree canopy, all while meeting the demanding clinical standards of a 446 bed pediatric hospital.
